Day 342
Happiest day of my life. The last time I was in München, I did not have the privilege of exploring the BMW Museum. Today however, we spend ALL DAY at BMW Welt, and the museum. The museum is easily worth however much money it costs (I think it was 16 Euro). It generally takes you chronologically through BMW’s history and their different products. I saw bikes (motorcycles), 1 series, 3 series, 5 series, 6 series, 7 series, an F1drivenby Nick Heidfeld!!
I was really, really excited when we got to the advertising room! I’m not sure why, but I love seeing how advertising has developed and grown over time. There were so many advertisements and we felt like we had already walked 5 miles of museum so we weren’t in the room as long as I would have liked.
They had a room that illustrated how they go about designing the new models. This includes (for all BMW’s) a life-sized, solid, clay model of the automobile. Incredible the effort that goes into the production of each vehicle.
The last part of the museum was an exhibit entitled “Art Cars” where artists had actually painted different paintings and collages on the cars.
On our way back to the hotel, we stopped back through BMW Welt (the U-Bahn station is right there in the Olympiastadions and BMW Welt) we participated in the promotion that they had going on. If you got a hole-in-one on a putting green, you had your option of a free BMW gift! I got a pin and I loved it. My friend, Annirudh (Salzburg picture), won twice! It was epic.
